The things we are proud of...

My nineteen-month-old did this all by herself, which on first viewing may not seem like much. But really, when you think of how their minds develop, how she has gone from almost no cognizance of the world around her, to ordering these cups along the floor, it's amazing. It's stunning, really. She hasn't even been around for two years yet, and already she can count to nine...she can become absorbed in a book...

I am in constant awe. That is one of the gifts we receive as parents. Constant, unabashed wonder. It is the gift of another childhood, in a sense. The gift of re-birth...

This sums up precisely how I feel when I watch our eight month old purposefully and deliberately hit a button on a toy to make it play a song. Such a small thing, and yet so amazing.

Eight/nine months is a fantastic age. That was when it really started getting "fun" for us. Before it was amazing, but around that age they start to become so much more...interesting? Interactive? Something changes...

Interactive is exactly the word my wife and I use.
